Second Sunday in Advent (December 10th)

Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus (338)
Come, Thou long-expected Jesus, Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us; Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art,
Dear desire of ev’ry nation, Joy of ev’ry longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver; Born a child and yet a king!
Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all-sufficient merit Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

Invocation
En el nombre del Padre, y del X Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo.
All Amen.

Confession and Forgiveness
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us
All But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse
us from all unrighteousness.
Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.
All Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.
Cristo, ten piedad de nosotros.
All Cristo, ten piedad de nosotros.
Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.
All Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.
Silence is Kept
Let us then confess our sins to God our Father:
All Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have
sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we
have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our
neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive
us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to
the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all
your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I forgive you all
your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
All Amen.

The Kyrie

The Prayer of the Day
The Lord be with you.
All And also with you.
Let us pray.
All Almighty God, purify our hearts and minds, that when your Son Jesus Christ comes again
as judge and saviour we may be ready to receive him, who is our Lord and our God.
Amen.

The Scripture Readings
Isaiah 40:1-11
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to
her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has
received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins. A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness
prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley
shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see
it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What
shall I cry?” “All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the Lord blows on them. Surely
the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures
forever.” You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good
news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns
of Judah, “Here is your God!” See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with
a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. He tends
his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.
This is the word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.

2 Peter 3:8-14
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years,
and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some
understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but
everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens
will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and
everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what
kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward
to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the
heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are
looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. So then,
dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless,
blameless and at peace with him.
This is the word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark.
All Glory to You, O Lord.

Mark 1:1-8

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way. A voice of one crying
out in the desert: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” John the Baptist appeared in
the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. People of the whole
Judean countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were going out to him and were being
baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. John was clothed in camel’s
hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He fed on locusts and wild honey. And this is what he
proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs
of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
All Praise to you, O Christ.

The Apostle’s Creed
All I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into
heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection X of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Hark the Glad Sound (349)
Hark the glad sound! The Savior comes, The Savior promised long;
Let ev’ry heart prepare a throne And ev’ry voice a song.
He comes the pris’ners to release, In Satan’s bondage held.
The gates of brass before Him burst, The iron fetters yield.
He comes the broken heart to bind, The bleeding soul to cure,
And with the treasures of His grace To enrich the humble poor.

Sermon

The Offering

Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow (805)
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Silent Prayer Before Reception of Holy Eucharist
O Lord, I believe and profess that you are truly Christ,
The Son of the living God, who came into the world
To save sinners of whom I am the first.
Accept me as a partaker of your mystical supper, O Lord,
For I will not reveal your mystery to your enemies,
Nor will I give you a kiss as did Judas, But like the thief I profess to you:
Remember me, O Lord, when you come in your kingdom.
Remember me, O Master, when you come in your kingdom.
Remember me, O Holy One, when you come in your kingdom.
May the partaking of your Holy mysteries, O Lord,
Be not for my judgment or condemnation,
But for the healing of my soul and body.
O Lord, I believe and profess, that this,
Which I am about to receive,
Is truly your most precious Body, and your life-giving Blood,
Given for me for remission of all my sins and for life everlasting. Amen

Service of the Sacrament
The Lord be with you.
All And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
All We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
It is indeed right and good to give you thanks and praise, almighty God and everlasting
Father, through Jesus Christ your Son. For when he humbled himself to come among us in
human flesh, he fulfilled the plan you formed before the foundation of the world to open for us
the way of salvation. Confident that your promise will be fulfilled, we now watch for the day
when Christ our Lord will come again in glory. And so we join our voices with angels and
archangels and with all the company of heaven to proclaim your glory forever praising you
and saying:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of Sabaoth adored;
Heaven and earth with full acclaim shout the glory of Your name.
Sing hosana in the highest, sing hosana to the Lord;
Truly blest is He who comes in the name of the Lord!

Prayer of Thanksgiving
Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You
created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior.
With repentant joy, we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice
of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of
Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit.
Grant us to faithfully eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us to in His own testament.
Gather us together from the ends of the earth to celebrate, with all the faithful, the marriage
feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Receive our prayers; deliver and
preserve us. To You alone be all glory, honor, and worship, now and forever.
All Amen.
The Consecration

The Acclamation and Invitation
As often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection until you come again.
All Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
Behold the Lamb of God, behold Jesus, who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are
those called to the supper of the Lamb.
All Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.
La paz del Señor sea con ustedes.
All Y Tambien contigo

Sharing of the Peace
Greet each other in the name of Christ by saying ‘the Peace of the Lord be with you’ as a sign of forgiveness &
reconciliation in preparation for reception of the Blessed Sacrament.

Lamb of God
Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.

The Blessing

Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer (918)
Guide me, O Thou great Redeemer, Pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but Thou art mighty; Hold me with Thy pow’rful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven
Feed me till I want no more; Feed me till I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain Whence the healing stream doth flow;
Let the fiery, cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliv’rer, strong deliv’rer,
Be Thou still my strength and shield; Be Thou still my strength and shield.
When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside;
Death of death and hell’s destruction, Land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever give to Thee; I will ever give to Thee.
