The Feast of All Saints (Nov 5)
The Greeting and Welcome
The congregation stands and faces the entrance of the sanctuary. We begin with a procession – the cross leading the way – an image of our new life in Jesus Christ and our journey to Paradise. Some bow as the cross passes, honoring the mystery of salvation.
For All the Saints (677)
For all the saints who from their labors rest,
Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might;
Thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight;
Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true light. Alleluia! Alleluia!
Oh, may Thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold,
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old
And win with them the victor’s crown of gold! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Oh, blest communion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine. Alleluia! Alleluia!
Invocation
En el nombre del Padre, y del X Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo.
All Amen.
Confession and Forgiveness
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us
All But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse
us from all unrighteousness.
Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.
All Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.
Cristo, ten piedad de nosotros.
All Cristo, ten piedad de nosotros.
Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.
All Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.
Silence is Kept
Let us then confess our sins to God our Father:
All Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have
sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we
have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our
neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive
us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to
the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all
your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I forgive you all
your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
All Amen.
The Kyrie
The Prayer of the Day
The Lord be with you.
All And also with you.
Let us pray.
All God of holiness, your glory is proclaimed in every age: as we rejoice in the faith of your
saints, inspire us to follow their example with boldness and joy; through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen!
The Scripture Readings
Revelation 7:9-17
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from
every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.
They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they
cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the
Lamb.” All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four
living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying:
“Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to
our God for ever and ever. Amen!” Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes—
who are they, and where did they come from?” I answered, “Sir, you know.” And he said,
“These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes
and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, “they are before the throne of
God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter
them with his presence. ‘Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will
not beat down on them,’ nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will
be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away
every tear from their eyes.
This is the word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.
1 John 3:1-3
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made
known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as
he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
This is the word of the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.
The Gospel Procession
The Holy Gospel is read in the midst of the people as a reminder of God coming to us in Jesus Christ. As the Gospel is announced some make a small cross on their forehead, lips, and chest – a prayer that the Word would dwell in our minds, on our lips, and in our hearts.
Hail Thee, Festival Day (489)
Hail thee, festival day! Blest day to be hallowed forever;
Day when our Lord was raised, Breaking the kingdom of death.
Hail thee, festival day! Blest day to be hallowed forever;
Day when our Lord was raised, Breaking the kingdom of death.
A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
All Glory to You, O Lord.
Matthew 5:1-12
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his
disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for
theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of
righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and
persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. Rejoice and be
glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
All Praise to you, O Christ.
Hail Thee, Festival Day (489)
Hail thee, festival day! Blest day to be hallowed forever;
Day when our Lord was raised, Breaking the kingdom of death.
Hail thee, festival day! Blest day to be hallowed forever;
Day when our Lord was raised, Breaking the kingdom of death.
The Apostle’s Creed
All I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into
heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection X of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
Amazing Grace (477)
Amazing grace–how sweet the sound–That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found, Was blind but now I see!
The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures.
Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come;
His grace has brought me safe thus far, His grace will lead me home.
Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail And mortal life shall cease,
Amazing grace shall then prevail In heaven’s joy and peace.
Sermon
The Offering
Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow (805)
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Prayer Before Reception of Holy Communion
O Lord, I believe and profess that you are truly Christ,
The Son of the living God, who came into the world
To save sinners of whom I am the first.
Accept me as a partaker of your mystical supper, O Lord,
For I will not reveal your mystery to your enemies,
Nor will I give you a kiss as did Judas, But like the thief I profess to you:
Remember me, O Lord, when you come in your kingdom.
Remember me, O Master, when you come in your kingdom.
Remember me, O Holy One, when you come in your kingdom.
May the partaking of your Holy mysteries, O Lord,
Be not for my judgment or condemnation,
But for the healing of my soul and body.
O Lord, I believe and profess, that this,
Which I am about to receive,
Is truly your most precious Body, and your life-giving Blood,
Given for me for remission of all my sins and for life everlasting. Amen
Service of the Sacrament
The Lord be with you.
All And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
All We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, holy
Father, almighty and eternal God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. And now we give you
thanks, most gracious God, surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses and glorified in the
assembly of your saints. The glorious company of apostles praise you. The noble fellowship of
prophets praise you. The white-robed army of martyrs praise you. We, your holy Church,
acclaim you. In communion with angels and archangels, and with all who served you on
earth and worship you now in heaven, we raise our voice to proclaim your glory, forever
praising you and saying:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of Sabaoth adored;
Heaven and earth with full acclaim shout the glory of Your name.
Sing hosana in the highest, sing hosana to the Lord;
Truly blest is He who comes in the name of the Lord!
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You
created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior.
With repentant joy, we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice
of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of
Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit.
Grant us to faithfully eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us to in His own testament.
Gather us together from the ends of the earth to celebrate, with all the faithful, the marriage
feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Receive our prayers; deliver and
preserve us. To You alone be all glory, honor, and worship, now and forever.
All Amen.

The Blessing
Abide With Me (878)
Abide with me, fast falls the eventide. The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
I need Thy presence ev’ry passing hour; What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s pow’r?
Who like Thyself my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
Come not in terrors, as the King of kings, But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings;
Tears for all woes, a heart for ev’ry plea. Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me.
Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me.
I fear no foe with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight and tears no bitterness.
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still if Thou abide with me!
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom, & point me to the skies.
Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
