Ash Wednesday and Lent

Wednesday, February 14, is “Ash Wednesday” for us and for many Christians around the world... the first day of the special season of LENT in which we focus on the love of Christ our Savior displayed in his life, death, and resurrection... as well as in our lives today. We will observe Ash Wednesday with two special worship opportunities: the first at 11:00 a.m. and the second at 7:30 p.m. in the church.

Both will include the ceremony of ashes (a symbol of our need for the Lord’s merciful love and help in our lives), and the evening service will also include Holy Communion (it will also be somewhat bilingual). Some of the children of our Child Development Center will also participate in the morning service.

Before the evening service, from 6:15 to 7:20, we will have a light supper of soups, salads, and sandwiches in the Fellowship Room. All are invited to come for some food and fellowship before our worship. If you would be in a position to bring food to contribute, please do so; if not, just come anyway (for many it may be sort of a rush after work).

During the remaining season of Lent this year we will have two other special midweek worship opportunities before coming to HolyWeek. These will be informal and will be held Wednesday, February 28 and March 14...both preceded by a light supper. The March 14 service will include some built-in prayer time (instead of having a separate Prayer Vigil this year.) (Prayer requests for that night can be turned in at church or emailed to Pastor Carlos.) Lent is a special season for us to focus on Jesus and our relationship with him... he who then calls us to trust and follow him in serving the people around us each day.
