Meditation for the Epiphany of our Lord

O God, who by the leading of a star manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: mercifully grant that we, who know you now by faith, may at last behold your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen!

Processional Hymn

I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light (411)

I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.

God set the stars to give light the world. The star of my life is Jesus.

In Him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike.

The Lamb is the light of the city of God. Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

I want to see the brightness of God. I want to look at Jesus.

Clear Sun of Righteousness, shine on my path,

and show me the way to the Father.

In Him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike.

The Lamb is the light of the city of God. Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

I’m looking for the coming of Christ. I want to be with Jesus.

When we have run with patience the race, we shall know the joy of Jesus.

In Him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike.

The Lamb is the light of the city of God. Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

Invocation

En el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo.

All     Amen.

Confession and Forgiveness

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

All     But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.

All     Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.

Cristo, ten piedad de nosotros.

All     Cristo, ten piedad de nosotros.

Señor, ten piedad de nosotros

All     Señor, ten piedad de nosotros

Let us then confess our sins to God our Father:

All     Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

All     Amen.

The Prayer of the Day

          The Lord be with you.

All     And also with you.

          Let us pray:

All     Creator of the heavens, who led the Magi by a star to worship the Christ-child: guide and sustain us, that we may find our journey’s end in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Scripture Readings

Isaiah 60:1-6

Arise, and shine like the sun; the glory of the Lord is shining on you!   Other nations will be covered by darkness, but on you the light of the Lord will shine; the brightness of his presence will be with you. Nations will be drawn to your light, and kings to the dawning of your new day. Look around you and see what is happening: your people are gathering to come home! Your sons will come from far away; your daughters will be carried like children. You will see this and be filled with joy; you will tremble with excitement. The wealth of the nations will be brought to you; from across the sea their riches will come. Great caravans of camels will come from Midian and Ephah. They will come from Sheba, bringing gold and incense. People will tell the good news of what the Lord has done!

This is the word of the Lord.

All     Thanks be to God.

Ephesians 3:1-12

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles, pray to God.  Surely you have heard that God in his grace has given me this work to do for your good.  God revealed his secret plan and made it known to me. (I have written briefly about this, and if you will read what I have written, you can learn about my understanding of the secret of Christ.) In past times mankind was not told this secret, but God has revealed it now by the Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets.  The secret is that by means of the gospel the Gentiles have a part with the Jews in God's blessings; they are members of the same body and share in the promise that God made through Christ Jesus. I was made a servant of the gospel by God's special gift, which he gave me through the working of his power. I am less than the least of all God's people; yet God gave me this privilege of taking to the Gentiles the Good News about the infinite riches of Christ, and of making all people see how God's secret plan is to be put into effect. God, who is the Creator of all things, kept his secret hidden through all the past ages, in order that at the present time, by means of the church, the angelic rulers and powers in the heavenly world might learn of his wisdom in all its different forms.  God did this according to his eternal purpose, which he achieved through Christ Jesus our Lord. In union with Christ and through our faith in him we have the boldness to go into God's presence with all confidence.

This is the word of the Lord.

All     Thanks be to God

Matthew 2:1-12

The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the 2nd chapter.

All     Glory to You, O Lord.

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. He called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law and asked them, “Where will the Messiah be born?” "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written: ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the leading cities of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.'" Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him."  And so they left, and on their way they saw the same star they had seen in the East. When they saw it, they were overjoyed! It went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. They went into the house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they knelt down and worshiped him. They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and of myrrh, and presented them to him. Then they returned to their country by another road, since God had warned them in a dream not to go back to Herod.

This is the Gospel of the Lord.

All     Praise to you, O Christ

Creed

All     I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Children’s Sermon

We Three Kings of Orient Are

We three kings of Orient are; bearing gifts we traverse afar

Field and fountain, moor and mountain, following yonder star:

O_ star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright,

Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light.

Born a king on Bethlehem’s plain, Gold I bring to crown him again–

King for ever, ceasing never, over us all to reign:

O_ star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright,

Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light.

Glorious now, behold him arise, King, and God, and sacrifice!

Alleluia, alleluia, earth to heaven replies:

O_ star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright,

Westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light.

En La Noche Los Pastores Velan

En la noche los pastores a sus ovejitas velan;

Angeles del cielo alaban, angeles del cielo cantan:

Pastorcitos, id, Pastorcitos, ya,

A adorar al Niño, a adorar al Niño

que en Belén está, que en Belén está.

Shepherds in the fields abiding,

watching o'er their sheep at nighttime

Then an angel came upon them, telling of a baby who is:

Jesus Christ the Lord, Jesus Christ the King;

Worship and adore Him, worship God the baby,  born in Bethlehem, born in Bethlehem.

Del oriente unos magos siguen la brillante estrella;

Quieren ofrecer regalos, traen may valiosos dones.

Magos, hoy venid; Magos hoy llegad

A adorar al Niño, a adorar al Niño

que en Belén está, que en Belén está.

From the East come Wise Men

guided by a star God placed before them.

Now come we with gifts of worship  led by light which is the Savior:

Jesus Christ, our Lord; Jesus Christ, our King;

Worship and adore Him, worship God the Baby,

born in Bethlehem, born in Bethlehem.

Con alegre reverencia en al bella noche buena,

Los cristianos hoy alaban, los cristianos todos cantan:

Pueblos, hoy venid; pueblos, hoy llegad

A adorar al Niño, a adorar al Niño

que en Belén está, que en Belén está.

The Offering

Service of the Sacrament

As we approach the altar for communion, please be mindful of others as you come forward. Those sitting on the pulpit side will receive first followed by those on the lectern side. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we adjust to liturgical transitions.

          The Lord be with you.

All     And also with you.

          Lift up your hearts.

All     We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All     It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

All glory and honour be yours always and everywhere, mighty creator, ever-living God. We give you thanks and praise for your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, who for love of our fallen race humbled himself, was born of the Virgin Mary by the power of your Spirit, and lived as one of us. In this mystery of the Word made flesh you have caused his light to shine in our hearts, to give knowledge of your glory in the face of Jesus Christ. In him we see our God made visible and so are caught up in the love of the God we cannot see. So, with choirs of angels and with all the heavenly hosts, we proclaim your glory!

All     Amen!

The Prayer of Thanksgiving

Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy, we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us to faithfully eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us to in His own testament. Gather us together from the ends of the earth to celebrate, with all the faithful, the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone be all glory, honor, and worship, now and forever.

All     Amen!

The Consecration

The Acclamation and The Invitation

As often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.

All     Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Behold the Lamb of God, behold Jesus, who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

All     Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.

La paz del Señor sea con ustedes.

All     Y también contigo

Lamb of God

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.

Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O... my soul, worship his holy name.

Sing like never before, O my soul; I’ll worship your holy name.
