The Ringing of the Bells and The Welcome

Opening Hymn: Thy Strong Word (578)

Thy strong word did cleave the darkness;

At thy speaking it was done.

For created light we thank thee

While thine ordered seasons run.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise to thee who light dost send!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia without end!

Thy strong Word bespeaks us righteous;

Bright with thine own holiness,

Glorious now, we press toward glory,

And our lives our hope confess.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise to thee who light dost send!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia without end!

From the cross thy wisdom shining

Breaketh forth in conqu'ring might;

From the cross forever beameth

All thy bright redeeming light.

Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise to thee who light dost send!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia without end!

Give us lips to sing thy glory,

Tongues thy mercy to proclaim,

Throats to shout the hope that fills us,

Mouths to speak thy holy name.

Alleluia! Alleluia! May the light which thou dost send

Fill our songs with alleluias, Alleluias without end!

God the Father, light-creator,

To thee laud and honor be.

To thee, Light from Light begotten,

Praise be sung eternally.

Holy Spirit, light-revealer, Glory, glory be to thee.

Mortals, angels, now and ever Praise the holy Trinity!

Invocation and Opening Sentences

Pastor:           En el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo.

People:          Amen.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

Pastor:           In the presence of God, who sees our hearts and our minds, let us confess our sin.

Pastor:            God our strength;

People:          we confess that we are captive to the power of sin that dwells within us. We put ourselves first and others last. What we think will make us happy leaves us longing for more. Even when we want to do what is good, we find ourselves doing the opposite. Rescue us from death's grip on our lives, and raise us up day by day, that we may be alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Pastor:           Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.

People:         Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.

Pastor:           Cristo, ten piedad de nosotros.

People:         Cristo, ten piedad de nosotros.

Pastor:           Señor, ten piedad de nosotros

People:         Señor, ten piedad de nosotros

(Silent Prayer) (Momento de Oración Personal)

Pastor:           Sisters and brothers, all have fallen short of the glory of God; therefore we are justified by God's grace as a gift. Nothing can separate us from the love of God in + Christ Jesus, in whom we have forgiveness of sin, life, and salvation.

People:         Amen.

The Prayer of the Day

People:          God of truth, help us to keep your law of love

and to walk in ways of wisdom, that we may find true life in Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.

Genesis 3:8-15

That evening they heard the Lord God walking in the garden, and they hid from him among the trees. But the Lord God called out to the man, “Where are you?”  He answered, “I heard you in the garden; I was afraid and hid from you, because I was naked.” 11 “Who told you that you were naked?” God asked. “Did you eat the fruit that I told you not to eat?” The man answered, “The woman you put here with me gave me the fruit, and I ate it.” The Lord God asked the woman, “Why did you do this?”   She replied, “The snake tricked me into eating it.  Then the Lord God said to the snake, “You will be punished for this; you alone of all the animals must bear this curse: from now on you will crawl on your belly, and you will have to eat dust as long as you live. I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring and yours will always be enemies. Her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite her offspring’s heel.”

Reader:          This is the Word of the Lord.

People:          Thanks be to God!

2 Corinthians 4:13 - 5:1

13 The scripture says, “I spoke because I believed.” In the same spirit of faith, we also speak because we believe. 14We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus to life, will also raise us up with Jesus and take us, together with you, into his presence. 15All this is for your sake; and as God’s grace reaches more and more people, they will offer to the glory of God more prayers of thanksgiving. 16 For this reason we never become discouraged. Even though our physical being is gradually decaying, yet our spiritual being is renewed day after day. 17And this small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble. 18For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts for ever. 5:1 For we know that when this tent we live in – this body here on earth – is torn down, God will have a house in heaven for us to live in, a home he himself has made, which will last forever.

Reader:          This is the Word of the Lord.

People:          Thanks be to God!

Mark 3:20-35

20 Then Jesus went home. Again such a large crowd gathered that Jesus and his disciples had no time to eat. 21When his family heard about it, they set out to take charge of him, because people were saying, “He’s out of his mind!”  22 Some teachers of the Law who had come from Jerusalem were saying, “He has Beelzebul in him! It is the chief of the demons who gives him the power to drive them out.”  23 So Jesus called them to him and spoke to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? 24If a country divides itself into groups which fight each other, that country will fall apart. 25If a family divides itself into groups which fight each other, that family will fall apart. 26So if Satan’s kingdom divides into groups, it cannot last, but will fall apart and come to an end.  27 “No one can break into a strong man’s house and take away his belongings unless he first ties up the strong man; then he can plunder his house.  28 “I assure you that people can be forgiven all their sins and all the evil things they may say. But whoever says evil things against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, because he has committed an eternal sin.” 30(Jesus said this because some people were saying, “He has an evil spirit in him.”)  31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. They stood outside the house and sent in a message, asking for him. 32A crowd was sitting around Jesus, and they said to him, “Look, your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, and they want you.”  33 Jesus answered, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” 34He looked at the people sitting around him and said, “Look! Here are my mother and my brothers! 35Whoever does what God wants is my brother, my sister, my mother.”

Pastor:            This is the Gospel of the Lord.

People:          Praise to You, O Christ.

The Nicene Creed

     I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And of all things visible and invisible.

     And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.  And he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

     And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets.  And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

Kid Sermon

Sermon Hymns: 10,000 Reasons

Bless the Lord, O my soul, O... my soul,

worship his holy name.

Sing like never before, O my soul; I’ll worship your holy name.

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning,

It’s time to sing your song again.

Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me,...

Let me be singing when the evening comes. [chorus]

You’re rich in love and you’re slow to anger;

Your name is great and your heart is kind.

For all your goodness, I will keep on singing;...

Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.   [chorus]

And on that day, when my strength is failing,

The end draws near, and my time has come;

Still, my soul will sing your praise unending...

Ten Thousand years, and then forevermore!   [chorus X2]

Worship your holy name

Lord, I’ll worship your holy name!

Prayers

The Lords Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Prayer Song: Cantad Al Sénior

Cantad al Senior, we sing Him a new song.

Service of the Sacrament

Pastor:            The Lord be with you.

People:          And also with you.

Pastor:            Lift up your hearts.

People:          We lift them to the Lord.

Pastor:            Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People:         It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Pastor:            It is truly right, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, holy Father, eternal God. From sunrise to sunset this day is holy, for Christ has risen from the tomb and scattered the darkness of death with light that will not fade. The risen Lord walks with us, unfolds for us your word, and makes himself known in the breaking of the bread. And though the night will overtake the day you summon us to live in endless light, the unending Sabbath of the Lord. And so, with choirs of angels and with all the heavenly host, we proclaim your glory!

People:         Amen!

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy, we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us to faithfully eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us to in His own testament. Gather us together from the ends of the earth to celebrate, with all the faithful, the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone be all glory, honor, and worship, now and forever. Amen.

Lamb of God

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world;

have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world;

have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world;

grant us peace.

Post-Communion Prayer

We give thanks to You, almighty God, that You have refreshed us through this salutary gift, and we implore You, that of Your mercy, You would strengthen us in faith toward You and in fervent love toward one another; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Closing Hymn: I know that my Redeemer lives (461)

I know that my Redeemer lives

What comfort this sweet sentence gives!

He lives, He lives, who once was dead;

He lives, my ever-living head.

He lives triumphant from the grave;

He lives eternally to save;

He lives all-glorious in the sky;

He lives exalted there on high.

He lives to bless me with His love;

He lives to plead for me above;

He lives my hungry soul to feed;

He lives to help in time of need.

He lives to silence all my fears;

He lives to wipe away my tears;

He lives to calm my troubled heart;

He lives all blessings to impart.

He lives, all glory to His name!

He lives, my Jesus, still the same;

Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives;

I know that my Redeemer lives!

The Blessing
