Opening Hymn: “A Hymn of Glory Let Us Sing” (#493)

A hymn of glory let us sing!

New hymns throughout the world shall ring: Alleluia, alleluia!

Christ, by a road before untrod, ascends unto the throne of God.

Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Alleluia, alleluia!

And with his faithful followers see their Lord ascend in majesty.

Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

To them the shining angles cry,

Why stand & gaze upon the sky?” Alleluia, alleluia!

This is the Savior,” thus they say; “This is his glorious triumph

day!” Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

You see him now ascending high up to the portals of the sky.”

The Response: "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High"

(Words and Music by Rick Founds, c. 1989, Maranatha! Music, CCLI #535024)

Lord, I lift Your Name on high.__ Lord, I love to sing Your praises.

I'm so glad You’re in my life.__ I'm so glad You came to save us.

You came from heaven to earth to show the way;

From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay;

From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky,

Lord, I lift Your name on high!

Acts 1:1-11

Dear Theophilus: In my first book I wrote about all the things that Jesus did and taught from the time he began his work 2until the day he was taken up to heaven. Before he was taken up, he gave instructions by the power of the Holy Spirit to the men he had chosen as his apostles. 3For 40 days after his death he appeared to them many times in ways that proved beyond doubt that he was alive. They saw him, and he talked with them about the Kingdom of God. And when they came together, he gave them this order: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift I told you about, the gift my Father promised. John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 6When the apostles met together with Jesus, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time give the Kingdom back to Israel?” 7Jesus said to them, “The times and occasions are set by my Father’s own authority, and it is not for you to know when they will be. 8 But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After saying this, he was taken up to heaven as they watched him, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10They still had their eyes fixed on the sky as he went away, when two men dressed in white suddenly stood beside them 11and said, “Galileans, why are you standing there looking up at the sky? This Jesus, who was taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way that you saw him go to heaven.”

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.

People: Thanks be to God!

Ephesians 1:15-23

15For this reason, ever since I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16I have not stopped giving thanks to God for you. I remember you in my prayers 17and ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you the Spirit, who will make you wise and reveal God to you, so that you will know him. 18I ask that your minds may be opened to see his light, so that you will know what is the hope to which he has called you, how rich are the wonderful blessings he promises his people, 19and how very great is his power at work in us who believe. This power working in us is the same as the mighty strength which he used when he raised Christ from death and seated him at his right side in the heavenly world. 21Christ rules there above all heavenly rulers, authorities, powers, and lords; he has a title superior to all titles of authority in this world and in the next. 22 God put all things under Christ’s feet and gave him to the church as supreme Lord over all things. 23 The church is Christ’s body, the completion of him who himself completes all things everywhere.

Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.

People: Thanks be to God!

Luke 24:44-53

44Jesus said to them, “These are the very things I told you about while I was still with you: everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the writings of the prophets, and the Psalms had to come true.” 45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46and said to them, “This is what is written: the Messiah must suffer and must rise from death three days later, 47and in his name the message about repentance and the forgiveness of sins must be preached to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things. 49 And I myself will send upon you what my Father has promised. But you must wait in the city until the power from above comes down upon you.”50Then he led them out of the city as far as Bethany, where he raised his hands and blessed them. 51 As he was blessing them, he departed from them and was taken up into heaven. 52They worshiped him and went back into Jerusalem, filled with great joy, 53and spent all their time in the Temple giving thanks to God.

Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord.

People: Praise to You, O Christ.

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Children’s Message

Sermon Hymn: “Crown Him with Many Crowns” (#525, vs. 1,3-5)

Crown him with many crowns, The Lamb upon his throne;

Hark how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own.

Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee

And hail him as thy matchless king through all eternity.

Crown him the Lord of love. Behold his hands and side,

Rich wounds yet visible above, in beauty glorified.

No angels in the sky can fully bear that sight,

But downward bend their burning eyes at mysteries so bright.

Crown him the Lord of life, who triumphed o'er the grave

And rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save.

His glories now we sing, who died and rose on high,

Who died eternal life to bring and lives that death may die.

Crown him the Lord of heaven, enthroned in worlds above.

Crown him the king to whom is given the wondrous name of love

Crown him with many crowns as thrones before him fall;

Crown him, ye kings, with many crowns for he is king of all.

Sermon

Prayers

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Prayer Hymn: “Eres Todopoderoso” (Spanish song by Juan

Salinas, c. 1999, CanZion Producciones, with permission, CCLI #535024)

La única razón de mi adoración eres tú mi Jesús...

Mi único motivo para vivir eres tú mi Señor...

Mi única verdad está en ti, Eres mi luz y mi salvación...

Mi único amor eres tu, Señor, y por siempre te alabaré...

Tú eres todo–poderoso, eres grande y majestuoso;

Eres fuerte, invensible, y no hay nadie como tú...

Jesus, my worship is all about you,

you are the source of my hope;

Jesus, my living is rooted in you, you are the source of my life.

My only truth is found in you, O Lord,

You are my light and you set me free;

The greatest love I have is you, O Lord,

and forever my praises I’ll give...

For you are holy, you’re almighty,

yet your grace is revealed in all that you do!

Yours’ the power and the glory, and there’s noone equal to you..!

Service of the Sacrament

Pastor: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Pastor: Lift up your hearts.

People: We lift them to the Lord.

Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Pastor: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, eternal Father, and in these days of Easter to celebrate with joyful hearts the memory of your wonderful works. For by the mystery of his passion Jesus Christ, your risen Son, has conquered the powers of death and hell and restored in humanity the image of your glory. He has placed them once more in paradise and opened to them the gate of life eternal. And so, in the joy of this Passover, earth and heaven resound with gladness, while angels and archangels and the powers of all creation speak forever of your glory.

People: Amen!

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy, we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us to faithfully eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us to in His own testament. Gather us together from the ends of the earth to celebrate, with all the faithful, the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone be all glory, honor, and worship, now and forever.

Lamb of God

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world;

have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world;

have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world;

grant us peace.

Consecration and Distribution

Thank the Lord

Thank the Lord and sing His praise;

tell everyone what He has done.

Let everyone who seeks the Lord,

rejoice and proudly bear His name.

He recalls His promises, and leads His people forth in joy

with shouts of thanksgiving. Alleluia, alleluia.

Post-Communion Prayer

We give thanks to You, almighty God, that You have refreshed us through this salutary gift, and we implore You, that of Your mercy, You would strengthen us in faith toward You and in fervent love toward one another; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Closing Hymn: “Beautiful Savior” (#537)

Beautiful Savior, King of Creation, Son of God and Son of Man!

Truly I'd love thee, truly I'd serve thee,

Light of my Soul, my joy my crown.

Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands,

Robed in flowers of blooming spring;

Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fair is the moonlight,

Bright the sparkling stars on high;

Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer

Than all the angels in the sky.

Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man!

Glory and honor, praise, adoration

Now and forever more be thine!

The Blessing
